The National Weather Service in Mount Holly says that the cold front, which brought a 5- to 10-degree temperature drop, will continue to influence the region's weather. "Widespread rain, and even a little snow in the Poconos, will arrive for Wednesday night through Thursday night," officials said.
According to AccuWeather, a storm system in the Great Lakes will shift to the Atlantic Coast.
"The rain may behave like a sudden squall with gusty winds and even some thunder and lightning in some cases," AccuWeather Meteorologist Brandon Buckingham said.
Wednesday will see a high near 57 degrees, with cloudy skies and a slight chance of rain in the late afternoon, the National Weather Service says. Heavier rain is expected to move in after 10 p.m., with temperatures dropping to around 40 degrees. New precipitation totals could reach up to an inch overnight, the NWS said.
Thursday is shaping up to be a washout, with rain continuing through the day and into the night. Temperatures will peak near 47 degrees before dropping to 32 degrees overnight. AccuWeather says the rain is unlikely to alleviate the recent drought.
Following the rain, Sussex County and parts of the Poconos could see snow, especially in higher elevations, but little to no accumulation is expected, according to the NWS.
By Friday morning, scattered snow showers could linger before transitioning back to rain as temperatures reach a high near 39 degrees. Precipitation is expected to taper off by Friday night, leaving mostly cloudy skies and a low of around 31 degrees.
Residents are urged to prepare for wet roadways and colder conditions as the storm system moves through.
